TY - BOOK N2 - A thin discontinuous unit of calc-silicate granulite and quartzite has been mapped on the east limb of the Berkshire anticlinorium in southern Massachusetts and is here named the Russell Mountain Formation. It overlies rocks continuous with the Hawley Formation of MIddle Ordovician age and underlies the Goshen Formation of Middle Silurian to Early Devonian age. Largely on the basis of a correlation with the Shaw Mountain Formation of Vermont, the Russell Mountain Formation is assigned a Middle Silurian age.
