Summary
This documentary tells the story in a visually exciting way of the fascinating world of the international banana trade with all of its moral implications. World trade in bananas is dominated by major companies such as Chiquita, Dole and Del Monte. They have used a shocking level of pesticide, causing serious illness among the workers and depleting the rain forest. At the urging of some small scale banana producers, a European initiative called Agrofair began to produce people friendly and environmental friendly crops, known as Oke Fair-Trade bananas. Thus began the banana wars. Price cutting, attempts at union busting, monopolizing overseas transportation were but a few of the weapons used by the transnationals. Will the Oke Fair Trade banana survive on the battlefield of profit and politics?.
