Kennedy as the country's first (and so far, only) non-Protestant, non-Anglo Saxon president. The series, filmed in both Ireland and America, follows the rise of Irish-American political machines in cities like New York, Boston, Kansas City and Chicago and features contributions from Pulitzer Prize winning authors such as Robert Caro and Jack Beatty.</p> <p>The three-part series tell the story of six unique and powerful Irish-American politicians whose ancestors all came to America as impoverished Irish immigrants. The Irish, by the very process of coming to America, changed the country. They were the first immigrant group in the US who seized upon politics as a means of making a living and they left a permanent mark on the American political landscape which stills resonates today. The series opens in New York in the mid 1800s with the story of Richard 'Boss' Croker, it continues in New York with the story of Alfred E. Smith. The series also covers the Kansas Machine with the story of 'Boss' Tom Pendergast before moving on to Boston with James Michael Curley, to Chicago with the Major Richard J. Daley Story and ending with the John F. Kennedy election victory. 001355512 546__ $$aIn English. 001355512 586__ $$aNominated 2010 Irish Film and Television Awards, Best Documentary Series 001355512 60010 $$aCroker, Richard,$$d1843-1922. 001355512 60010 $$aSmith, Alfred Emanuel,$$d1873-1944. 001355512 650_0 $$aImmigrants$$zUnited States$$xHistory. 001355512 650_0 $$aIrish Americans$$xHistory. 001355512 650_0 $$aIrish Americans$$xPolitics and government. 001355512 650_0 $$aPoliticians$$zUnited States. 001355512 655_7 $$aDocumentary films.$$2lcgft 001355512 7001_ $$aKeane, Dathaí,$$edirector,$$escreenwriter. 001355512 7001_ $$aSeoighe, Bríd,$$eproducer. 001355512 7001_ $$aSeoighe, Eileen,$$eproducer. 001355512 7001_ $$aWall, Steve,$$enarrator. 001355512 85640 $$uhttp://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?MARC;3401971 001355512 901__ $$aASP3401971/marc$$bVaAlASP$$c104414$$tbiblio 001355512 905__ $$uadmin 001355512 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1355512$$pGLOBAL_SET 001355512 910__ $$aLR 2017-04-05 001355512 941__ $$a1008487515 001355512 944__ $$a3401971 001355512 945__ $$aThe Whole World 001355512 950__ $$aVSTR$$aFLON$$aPDAP$$aPAVN$$aAVN2$$aEBAP$$cVSTR-ST$$cEBAP-BF$$cPDAP-BF$$cFLON-15$$cAVN2-BF$$cPAVN-BF$$cPDAP-EX 001355512 980__ $$aSTREAMING 001355512 980__ $$aBIB 001355512 982__ $$aStreaming Video 001355512 983__ $$aOnline
