Here is where it all started in 1955 with the famous bus boycott led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ten years later, Montgomery was the symbolic goal of the march from Selma to protest restrictions on black voters, when many marchers were beaten by police. Images of those years are interwoven with the experiences of Montgomery's black citizens today. Vanzetta, a lawyer, recounts how the whites fled when she moved into their middle-class neighborhood. Harold and Lloyd are brothers who own a hairdressing shop. Theirs is one of the few black businesses to survive in this racially divided city. Paget took her employers at a fast food shop to court after she was fired because white customers complained that there were too many black employees. "It's important to make a stand on something," she says. Rev. Ralph Abernathy voices the suspicion that King's involvement in the poor people's campaign was the cause of King s death. He believes it was too radical a movement to be tolerated by the American power structure. 001355931 521__ $$aFor High School; College; Adult audiences. 001355931 530__ $$aPreviously released as DVD. 001355931 546__ $$aThis edition in English. 001355931 586__ $$aBronze Apple, National Education Film & Video Festival, 1993 001355931 650_0 $$aCivil rights movements. 001355931 651_0 $$aMontgomery (Ala.) 001355931 655_7 $$aNonfiction films.$$2lcgft 001355931 7102_ $$aOtmoor Productions. 001355931 7761_ $$cOriginal$$w(OCoLC)747797541 001355931 85640 $$uhttp://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?BLST;1642924 001355931 901__ $$aASP1642924/blsv$$bVaAlASP$$c15047$$tbiblio 001355931 905__ $$uadmin 001355931 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1355931$$pGLOBAL_SET 001355931 944__ $$a1784855 001355931 945__ $$aThe Whole World 001355931 980__ $$aSTREAMING 001355931 980__ $$aBIB 001355931 982__ $$aStreaming Video 001355931 983__ $$aOnline
