Soon after his first psychotic break John asked his sister, the filmmaker and his primary caretaker, to document his story. Filmed over three years, the siblings narrate the story of John s painful deterioration despite various therapies. Rarely has the family experience of the early stages of schizophrenia been articulated so clearly. John's acute self awareness and his intense art work make him the ideal subject. He describes what is is like to be labeled psychotic, to become catatonic and to feel like part of your mind is working against you. Day to day John struggles with a steady stream of paranoid and violent thoughts. John continues to battle his illness which has now been diagnosed as schizoaffective disorder. Obtaining an accurate diagnosis, medical benefits and housing were part of the arduous process of searching for help. Despite multiple hospitalizations he tries to lead as normal a life as possible, relying on the love and support of his family. 001356130 521__ $$aFor College; Adult audiences. 001356130 546__ $$aThis edition in English. 001356130 586__ $$aAmerican Psychological Association, 1995 001356130 586__ $$aBest Documentary/Best Film, Heart of America, 1995 001356130 586__ $$aCitation, Black Maria Film Festival, 1995 001356130 586__ $$aMill Valley Festival, 1995 001356130 586__ $$aWomen in the Director's Chair, 1995 001356130 650_0 $$aSchizoaffective disorders$$xPatients$$vBiography. 001356130 650_0 $$aSchizophrenia$$vCase studies. 001356130 655_7 $$aDocumentary films.$$2lcgft 001356130 7761_ $$cOriginal$$w(OCoLC)747798452 001356130 85640 $$uhttp://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?FLON;1650466 001356130 901__ $$aASP1650466/flon$$bVaAlASP$$c25279$$tbiblio 001356130 905__ $$uadmin 001356130 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1356130$$pGLOBAL_SET 001356130 944__ $$a1785096 001356130 945__ $$aThe Whole World 001356130 980__ $$aSTREAMING 001356130 980__ $$aBIB 001356130 982__ $$aStreaming Video 001356130 983__ $$aOnline
