It presents this conflict from the perspective of another culture. Because of a congenital predisposition, the Bedouin village of El-Sayed in the middle of the Negev desert has the largest proportion of deaf people in the world. The people of El-Sayed do not consider deafness a handicap.Through generations they have developed a unique sign language, making it the most popular communication method among both the deaf and hearing. The tranquility of the village is interrupted by Salim, father of three-year-old, Muhammad, who decides to have his deaf son receive a cochlear implant, which is offered by the Israeli health system. The film follows the impact of this advanced medical process on a traditional culture, as it gives an intimate portrait of a child's learning to hear. 001356185 521__ $$aFor College; Adult audiences. 001356185 546__ $$aArabic, subtitles in English. 001356185 586__ $$aFull Frame Film Festival, 2009 001356185 586__ $$aMargaret Mead Film and Video Festival, 2009 001356185 586__ $$aMiddle East Studies Association, 2009 001356185 586__ $$aOne World Human Rights Film Festival, Prague, 2009 001356185 586__ $$aSilverdocs, 2009 001356185 586__ $$aThe Other Israel Film Festival, 2009 001356185 650_0 $$aBedouins$$zIsrael$$zNegev$$xSocial conditions. 001356185 650_0 $$aCochlear implants. 001356185 650_0 $$aDeaf$$zIsrael$$zNegev$$xSocial conditions. 001356185 650_0 $$aSign language. 001356185 655_7 $$aDocumentary films.$$2lcgft 001356185 7761_ $$cOriginal$$w(OCoLC)747798663 001356185 85640 $$uhttp://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?HLTH;1650532 001356185 901__ $$aASP1650532/hlth$$bVaAlASP$$c23351$$tbiblio 001356185 905__ $$uadmin 001356185 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1356185$$pGLOBAL_SET 001356185 944__ $$a1785156 001356185 945__ $$aNorth America 001356185 980__ $$aSTREAMING 001356185 980__ $$aBIB 001356185 982__ $$aStreaming Video 001356185 983__ $$aOnline
