It examines the case of Perry J. Watkins, the first openly gay man to defeat the ban against gays in the military. The case established a powerful legal precedent that will act as an inspiration to the gay and black communities. His story is funny and compelling and sheds light on the social, political and historical context of the lesbian and gay movement. Drafted in 1968, Perry Watkins served fifteen years in the U.S. Army as an openly gay man who even did female impersonations on base, to entertain the troops. In 1982, he was discharged under the provisions that ban homosexuals from serving in the Armed Forces. With the help of the American Civil Liberties Union, Sgt. Watkins fought for reinstatement for nine years. In the end, the United States Supreme Court ruled in his favor and refused to hear the Army s appeal. 001356267 521__ $$aFor College; Adult audiences. 001356267 546__ $$aThis edition in English. 001356267 586__ $$aAmerican Psychological Association, 1997 001356267 586__ $$aBest Video, San Francisco Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, 1995 001356267 586__ $$aLesbian and Gay Festivals, Toronto, New York, Milan, 1995 001356267 586__ $$aSilver Plaque, Chicago International Film Festival, 1995 001356267 650_0 $$aGay military personnel$$zUnited States$$vBiography. 001356267 650_0 $$aGay military personnel. 001356267 655_7 $$aDocumentary films.$$2lcgft 001356267 655_7 $$aNon-fiction films.$$2lcgft 001356267 7001_ $$aCartagena, Chiqui. 001356267 7001_ $$aNewman, Suzanne. 001356267 7761_ $$cOriginal$$w(OCoLC)ocn747799003 001356267 85640 $$uhttp://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?LGBT;1652590 001356267 901__ $$aASP1652590/gltv$$bVaAlASP$$c23882$$tbiblio 001356267 905__ $$uadmin 001356267 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1356267$$pGLOBAL_SET 001356267 944__ $$a1785251 001356267 945__ $$aThe Whole World$$cMalaysia$$cMiddle East 001356267 980__ $$aSTREAMING 001356267 980__ $$aBIB 001356267 982__ $$aStreaming Video 001356267 983__ $$aOnline
