The love the family members feel for their disabled relatives is evident, as the film shows the joy, as well as the burdens their care imposes. Gammi is an elderly African American woman with Alzheimer s disease. Her family members are tolerant of her repetitive and often senseless babbling. They stroke and comfort her, and laugh fondly at her foibles.Michael is an eight-year-old with Downs syndrome. His mother, who already had two children, knew ahead of time that she would have a disabled child and chose not to abort. The family does not regret the decision, and, in fact, feels Michael is an important part of their lives.Shane is an impoverished teenager from Appalachia. His father left the family when he was young and his mother is a recovering alcoholic. Jenny, a college student, also has an alcoholic parent. It has not been easy for her to deal with confronting her mother about her alcoholism. Dale is a middle-aged paranoid schizophrenic. The family accepts the fact that he sometimes has bizarre visions. In a society in which multitudes of people share similar mental disorders and are abandoned by their families or their communities, these portraits are a reminder that patience and fortitude bring their own satisfactions. 001356329 521__ $$aFor High School; College; Adult audiences. 001356329 546__ $$aThis edition in English. 001356329 586__ $$aBest Documentary, OUStuff, 2003 001356329 586__ $$aBest Non-Fiction Short, Chicago/IFP Film Festival, 2003 001356329 586__ $$aCleveland International Film Festival 001356329 586__ $$aIowa City International Documentary Festival 001356329 586__ $$aLong Beach International Film Festival 001356329 586__ $$aNext Frame Festival, 2003 001356329 650_0 $$aAlcoholics. 001356329 650_0 $$aAlzheimer's disease$$xPatients. 001356329 650_0 $$aDown syndrome$$xPatients. 001356329 650_0 $$aMentally ill$$xCare. 001356329 650_0 $$aMentally ill$$xFamily relationships. 001356329 650_0 $$aSchizophrenics. 001356329 655_7 $$aDocumentary films.$$2lcgft 001356329 7001_ $$aChoma-Zimmerman, Justin. 001356329 7761_ $$cOriginal$$w(OCoLC)747799232 001356329 85640 $$uhttp://www.aspresolver.com/aspresolver.asp?FLON;1652672 001356329 901__ $$aASP1652672/flon$$bVaAlASP$$c25110$$tbiblio 001356329 905__ $$uadmin 001356329 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1356329$$pGLOBAL_SET 001356329 944__ $$a1785325 001356329 945__ $$aThe Whole World 001356329 980__ $$aSTREAMING 001356329 980__ $$aBIB 001356329 982__ $$aStreaming Video 001356329 983__ $$aOnline
