Summary
It's one of the most controversial debates in the world today! Finland is building a nuclear power station. It has been decades since one was built in Europe, but the latest project is already 50% over budget. Nicolas Sarkozy is using his political clout to sell French nuclear know-how around the world, signing co-operation agreements to build reactors in countries such as China, India, Algeria and Tunisia. Sweden has recently lifted a 30-year ban on the construction of nuclear power stations. The International Energy Agency recommends counting on nuclear energy and the nuclear industry insists it has a bright future, but critics say these optimistic statements are just propaganda. Meanwhile, Spain's nuclear reactors at Ascó and Vandellòs have had one of their worst years ever, chalking up over half of the major incidents at all the country's power stations. This film touches on a tough debate in which opinions are sharply divided and half truths abound. The secrecy surrounding the nuclear industry only compounds the problem.
