By systematically examining the development of power dynamics in Asia-Pacific, it challenges the notion that a wealthier and militarily more powerful China is automatically turning the regional tides in its favour. With a special emphasis on Sino-US competition, the book explores the alleged linkage between the regional distribution of relevant material and immaterial capabilities, national power and the much-cited regional power shift. The book presents a novel concept for measuring power in international relations by outlining a composite index on aggregated power (CIAP) that includes 55 variables for 44 regional countries and covers a period of twenty years. Moreover, it develops a middle power theory that outlines the significance of middle powers in times of major power shifts. By addressing political, military and economic cooperation via a structured-focused comparison and by applying a comparative-historical analysis, the book analyses in depth the bilateral relations of six regional middle powers to Washington and Beijing. 001358532 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001358532 63000 $$aGlobal power shift. 001358532 650_0 $$aPolitical science. 001358532 650_0 $$aInternational relations. 001358532 651_0 $$aAsia$$xPolitics and government. 001358532 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xPolitics and government. 001358532 651_0 $$aAsia$$xEconomic conditions. 001358532 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001358532 7102_ $$aÉcole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts (France) 001358532 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aFels, Enrico.$$tShifting power in Asia-Pacific? : the rise of China, Sino-US competition and regional middle power allegiance.$$dCham, Switzerland : Springer, ©2017$$hxvii, 768 pages$$kGlobal power shift.$$x2198-7351$$z9783319456881 001358532 830_0 $$aGlobal Power Shift, Comparative Analysis and Perspectives.$$x2198-7343 001358532 852__ $$bebk 001358532 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-45689-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001358532 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1358532$$pGLOBAL_SET 001358532 980__ $$aBIB 001358532 980__ $$aEBOOK 001358532 982__ $$aEbook 001358532 983__ $$aOnline 001358532 994__ $$a92$$bISE
