Examining the graphic reportage produced by the first generation of these pioneering journalists, through a series of thematic case studies, it considers individual correspondents and their stories, and the ways in which they contributed to, and were shaped by, the broader media landscape. While commonly associated with the reportage of war, special correspondents were in fact tasked with routinely chronicling all manner of topical events at home and abroad. What distinguished the work of these journalists was their effort to 'picture' the news, to transport readers imaginatively to the events described. While criticised by some for its sensationalism, special correspondence brought the world closer, shrinking space and time, and helping to create our modern news culture. 001359817 650_0 $$aGreat Britain-History. 001359817 650_0 $$aCivilization$$xHistory. 001359817 650_0 $$aEurope-History-1492- 001359817 650_0 $$aSocial history. 001359817 650_0 $$aJournalism. 001359817 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001359817 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3030038602 001359817 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in the history of the media. 001359817 852__ $$bebk 001359817 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-03861-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001359817 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1359817$$pGLOBAL_SET 001359817 980__ $$aBIB 001359817 980__ $$aEBOOK 001359817 982__ $$aEbook 001359817 983__ $$aOnline 001359817 994__ $$a92$$bISE
