It argues that ecclesiastical writers used their works to legitimize certain displays of royal anger, often resulting in violence, while at the same time deploying a shared emotional language that also allowed them to condemn other types of displays. These texts are particularly concerned about displays of anger in regard to suppressing revolt, ensuring justice, protecting honor, and respecting the status of kingship. In all of these areas, the role of ecclesiastical and lay counsel forms an important limit on the growth and expansion of royal prerogatives. 001360265 650_0 $$aEurope-History-476-1492. 001360265 650_0 $$aGreat Britain-History. 001360265 650_0 $$aCivilization$$xHistory. 001360265 650_0 $$aLiterature, Medieval. 001360265 650_0 $$aWorld politics. 001360265 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001360265 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783030112226 001360265 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783030112240 001360265 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in the history of emotions. 001360265 852__ $$bebk 001360265 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-11223-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001360265 887__ $$aD111-203 001360265 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1360265$$pGLOBAL_SET 001360265 980__ $$aBIB 001360265 980__ $$aEBOOK 001360265 982__ $$aEbook 001360265 983__ $$aOnline 001360265 994__ $$a92$$bISE
