(2) Can we explain how full-fledged self-conscious thought and language can arise in the normal course of human development? Bermudez argues that a paradox (the paradox of self-consciousness) arises from the apparent strict interdependence between self-conscious thought and linguistic self-reference. Responding to the paradox, the author draws on recent work in empirical psychology and philosophy to cut the tie between self-conscious thought and linguistic self-reference. 001386393 588__ $$aOCLC-licensed vendor bibliographic record. 001386393 650_0 $$aSelf (Philosophy) 001386393 650_0 $$aSelf-consciousness (Awareness) 001386393 650_0 $$aThought and thinking. 001386393 650_0 $$aPsycholinguistics. 001386393 653__ $$aCOGNITIVE SCIENCES/General 001386393 653__ $$aPHILOSOPHY/Philosophy of Mind/General 001386393 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001386393 852__ $$bebk 001386393 85640 $$3MIT Press$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://doi.org/10.7551/mitpress/5227.001.0001?locatt=mode:legacy$$zOnline Access through The MIT Press Direct 001386393 85642 $$3OCLC metadata license agreement$$uhttp://www.oclc.org/content/dam/oclc/forms/terms/vbrl-201703.pdf 001386393 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1386393$$pGLOBAL_SET 001386393 980__ $$aBIB 001386393 980__ $$aEBOOK 001386393 982__ $$aEbook 001386393 983__ $$aOnline
