Yet implicit in the city is a continuity overruling what might be chaos. The Cambridge Historical Commission was established not to piously preserve a static past, but to make manifest this living continuity between the best that has gone before and the best that can be actively encouraged for the future. The Survey may represent the last, best hope of establishing such a sense of continuity (both historical and architectural), because Cambridge is in the midst of a period of decisive, even divisive, change; an invasion of automobiles demanding new highways, institutional expansion into residential areas, the possible destruction of viable neighborhoods that are both socially and architecturally cohesive by projects that are likely to be only temporary encampments in the longer view. This Report surveys the Cambridgeport neighborhood, which, as its name suggests, lies along a waterway; it is embraced by a bend in the Charles River. 001386678 588__ $$aOCLC-licensed vendor bibliographic record. 001386678 650_0 $$aArchitecture$$zMassachusetts$$zCambridge$$xHistory$$y19th century. 001386678 651_0 $$aCambridge (Mass.)$$xBuildings, structures, etc. 001386678 651_0 $$aEast Cambridge (Cambridge, Mass.)$$xBuildings, structures, etc. 001386678 653__ $$aARCHITECTURE/General 001386678 653__ $$aMIT 001386678 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001386678 7001_ $$aMaycock, Susan E.,$$d1943- 001386678 7102_ $$aCambridge Historical Commission. 001386678 852__ $$bebk 001386678 85640 $$3MIT Press$$uhttps://doi.org/10.7551/mitpress/1718.001.0001?locatt=mode:legacy$$zOnline Access through The MIT Press Direct 001386678 85642 $$3OCLC metadata license agreement$$uhttp://www.oclc.org/content/dam/oclc/forms/terms/vbrl-201703.pdf 001386678 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1386678$$pGLOBAL_SET 001386678 980__ $$aBIB 001386678 980__ $$aEBOOK 001386678 982__ $$aEbook 001386678 983__ $$aOnline
