He argues that we mindread all the time, effortlessly, automatically, and mostly unconsciously. It is the natural way in which we interpret, predict, and participate in social behavior and communication. We ascribe mental states to people: states such as thoughts, desires, knowledge, and intentions. Building on many years of research, Baron-Cohen concludes that children with autism, suffer from "mindblindness" as a result of a selective impairment in mindreading. For these children, the world is essentially devoid of mental things. Baron-Cohen develops a theory that draws on data from comparative psychology, from developmental, and from neuropsychology. He argues that specific neurocognitive mechanisms have evolved that allow us to mindread, to make sense of actions, to interpret gazes as meaningful, and to decode "the language of the eyes."A Bradford Book. 001387542 588__ $$aOCLC-licensed vendor bibliographic record. 001387542 650_0 $$aCognitive psychology. 001387542 653__ $$aCOGNITIVE SCIENCES/General 001387542 653__ $$aNEUROSCIENCE/General 001387542 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001387542 7001_ $$aBaron-Cohen, Simon. 001387542 7102_ $$aMITCogNet. 001387542 852__ $$bebk 001387542 85640 $$3MIT Press$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://doi.org/10.7551/mitpress/4635.001.0001?locatt=mode:legacy$$zOnline Access through The MIT Press Direct 001387542 85642 $$3OCLC metadata license agreement$$uhttp://www.oclc.org/content/dam/oclc/forms/terms/vbrl-201703.pdf 001387542 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1387542$$pGLOBAL_SET 001387542 980__ $$aBIB 001387542 980__ $$aEBOOK 001387542 982__ $$aEbook 001387542 983__ $$aOnline
