It examines the hypothesis that the behavior of lexical items may be explained in terms of a very small number of very simple principles. In particular, a lexical item is assumed to project a syntactic configuration defined over just two relations, complement and specifier, where these configurations are constrained to preclude iteration and to permit only binary branching. The work examines this hypothesis by methodically looking at a variety of constructions in English and other languages. 001387712 588__ $$aOCLC-licensed vendor bibliographic record. 001387712 650_0 $$aGrammar, Comparative and general$$xVerb phrase. 001387712 650_0 $$aGrammar, Comparative and general$$xSyntax. 001387712 653__ $$aLINGUISTICS & LANGUAGE/General 001387712 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001387712 7001_ $$aKeyser, Samuel Jay,$$d1935- 001387712 852__ $$bebk 001387712 85640 $$3MIT Press$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://doi.org/10.7551/mitpress/5634.001.0001?locatt=mode:legacy$$zOnline Access through The MIT Press Direct 001387712 85642 $$3OCLC metadata license agreement$$uhttp://www.oclc.org/content/dam/oclc/forms/terms/vbrl-201703.pdf 001387712 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1387712$$pGLOBAL_SET 001387712 980__ $$aBIB 001387712 980__ $$aEBOOK 001387712 982__ $$aEbook 001387712 983__ $$aOnline
