Beginning in the 1930s, Albers and Moholy-Nagy each developed a rigorously abstract language that condensed art to its visual fundamentals: line, color, texture, light, and form. This language experienced a creative explosion during their Bauhaus years, when both artists moved freely between media and disciplines. Essays by leading scholars follow the artists' separate paths through to their emigration to the United States, where each continued to push tirelessly the conventions of artistic practice--Albers at Black Mountain College in North Carolina and then at Yale University, and Moholy-Nagy in Chicago at the New Bauhaus School and the Institute of Design. As highly influential teachers, Albers and Moholy-Nagy became important catalysts for the transmission of Modernist ideas from Europe to America. 001390261 60010 $$aAlbers, Josef$$vExhibitions. 001390261 60010 $$aMoholy-Nagy, László,$$d1895-1946$$vExhibitions. 001390261 60014 $$aAlbers, Josef,$$d1888-1976. 001390261 60014 $$aMoholy-Nagy, László,$$d1895-1946. 001390261 60016 $$aAlbers, Josef,$$d1888-1976$$vExpositions. 001390261 60016 $$aMoholy-Nagy, László,$$d1895-1946$$vExpositions. 001390261 60017 $$aAlbers, Josef.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst00054775 001390261 60017 $$aMoholy-Nagy, László,$$d1895-1946.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst00045897 001390261 61020 $$aBauhaus$$vExhibitions. 001390261 61027 $$aBauhaus.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst00554499 001390261 650_0 $$aModernism (Art)$$vExhibitions. 001390261 650_6 $$aModernisme (Art)$$0(CaQQLa)201-0001315$$vExpositions.$$0(CaQQLa)201-0378191 001390261 650_7 $$aModernism (Art)$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01024442 001390261 65507 $$cv$$aExhibition catalogs.$$2aat 001390261 65507 $$cv$$aWritings.$$2aat 001390261 655_7 $$aExhibition catalogs.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01424028 001390261 655_7 $$aExhibition catalogs.$$2lcgft 001390261 7001_ $$aBorchardt-Hume, Achim,$$eeditor. 001390261 7001_ $$aAlbers, Josef,$$eartist. 001390261 7001_ $$aMoholy-Nagy, László,$$d1895-1946,$$eartist. 001390261 7102_ $$aTate Modern (Gallery),$$econtributor. 001390261 7102_ $$aKunsthalle Bielefeld,$$econtributor. 001390261 7102_ $$aWhitney Museum of American Art,$$econtributor. 001390261 852__ $$bgen$$hN6888.A5$$iA4 2006 001390261 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1390261$$pGLOBAL_SET 001390261 980__ $$aBOOK 001390261 980__ $$aBIB
