The key stylistic transformation of the period was from Expressionism to Constructivism, as artists and writers, against a volatile background of war and revolution, saw the opportunity literally to construct a new world through their work. The borders between the visual arts, photography, film, architecture, poetry, and typography were obliterated, as artists sought to transcend the forces of traditionalism to forge an elemental visual language that would overcome national and linguistic boundaries. Yet at the same time that these artists advocated pluralism and unity, their work engaged issues such as nationalism and tradition that still resonate in artistic circles today. The book, which accompanies a major exhibition organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and curated by Timothy Benson, assisted by Monika. 001390263 5208_ $$aKrol, is arranged around events and situations rather than by linear, art historical categories. It features hundreds of color plates and reproductions of documents; discussions of movements from Artificialism to Zenitism; essays on figures, publications, and exhibitions; and shorter "city views" of Belgrade, Berlin, Bucharest, Budapest, Cracow, Dessau, Ljubljana, úódz, Poznañ, Prague, Vienna, Warsaw, Weimar, and Zagreb. 001390263 61027 $$aAvant Garde$$gMusikgruppe$$2gnd$$0(DE-588)10337141-2 001390263 61027 $$aAssociation Mitteleuropa$$2gnd$$0(DE-588)1156659736 001390263 648_7 $$a1900-1999$$2fast 001390263 648_7 $$aGeschichte 1910-1930.$$2swd 001390263 650_0 $$aArt, European$$y20th century$$vExhibitions. 001390263 650_0 $$aAvant-garde (Aesthetics)$$zEurope, Central$$xHistory$$y20th century$$vExhibitions. 001390263 650_6 $$aArt européen$$zEurope centrale$$y20e siècle$$vExpositions. 001390263 650_6 $$aAvant-garde (Art)$$0(CaQQLa)201-0259665$$zEurope centrale$$0(CaQQLa)201-0421390$$xHistoire$$0(CaQQLa)201-0378892$$y20e siècle$$0(CaQQLa)201-0378892$$vExpositions.$$0(CaQQLa)201-0378191 001390263 650_7 $$aAvantgarde.AusstellungAvant-garde.Avant-garde.Beeldende kunsten.Avant-garde (Aesthetics)Art, European.Avant-garde (Art)Art europnAvant-garde (Aesthetics)Art, European$$xExhibitions.$$xExhibitions.$$xHistory$$xExpositions.$$xExpositions.$$xHistoire$$zEurope, Central$$zEurope centrale$$zEurope centrale$$y20thcentury20thcentury20esile20esile.$$2cct 001390263 650_7 $$aArt, European.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst00816244 001390263 650_7 $$aAvant-garde (Aesthetics)$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst00824280 001390263 650_7 $$aAusstellung$$2gnd$$0(DE-588)4129601-1 001390263 65017 $$aBeeldende kunsten.$$2gtt 001390263 65017 $$aAvant-garde.$$2gtt 001390263 650_7 $$aAvant-garde.$$2larpcal 001390263 650_7 $$aArt, European$$zEurope, Central$$vExhibitions.$$2nli 001390263 650_7 $$aAvant-garde (Aesthetics)$$zEurope, Central$$y20th century$$vExhibitions.$$2nli 001390263 650_7 $$aAvantgarde$$2gnd$$0(DE-588)4133965-4 001390263 651_7 $$aEurope,Central..$$2cct 001390263 651_7 $$aCentral Europe.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01244544 001390263 655_4 $$aAusstellung$$zLos Angeles (Calif.)$$y2002. 001390263 65507 $$cv$$aExhibition catalogs.$$2aat 001390263 655_7 $$aExhibition catalogs.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01424028 001390263 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001390263 655_7 $$aExhibition catalogs.$$2lcgft 001390263 655_7 $$aLos Angeles (Calif., 2002)$$2swd 001390263 7001_ $$aBenson, Timothy O.,$$d1950- 001390263 7102_ $$aLos Angeles County Museum. 001390263 7102_ $$aHaus der Kunst München. 001390263 7102_ $$aMartin-Gropius-Bau (Berlin, Germany) 001390263 77608 $$iOnline version:$$tCentral European avant-gardes.$$dLos Angeles : Los Angeles County Museum of Art ; Cambridge, Mass. : MIT Press, ©2002$$w(OCoLC)606682394 001390263 852__ $$bgen$$hN6758$$i.C45 2002 001390263 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1390263$$pGLOBAL_SET 001390263 980__ $$aBOOK 001390263 980__ $$aBIB
