Their story, which involves espionage, intelligence tradecraft, intelligence service penetrations, double agent scenarios, and betrayal, is a piece of Cold War intelligence history that has never been fully told. Yevgeni Brik was a KGB deep cover illegal who had been dispatched to Canada in 1951. He settled in Verdun, Quebec. He eventually became the KGB Illegal Resident where he had responsibility for running a number of agents, one of whom was working on the CF-105, Avro Arrow. In 1953, he fell in love with a married Canadian woman to whom he revealed his true identity. She persuaded him to turn himself in, which resulted in his becoming a double agent, working for Canada. He was later betrayed by a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer, James Morrison, who sought money from the KGB to pay his debts. Brik was consequently lured back to Moscow in 1955, where he was arrested, and interrogated. Convicted of treason, a traitor's fate awaited him, predictable, grim and final. Incredibly, he reappeared at a British Embassy as an old man in 1992, seeking Canada's help. He was exfiltrated by a joint Canadian/British intelligence team which was headed by Donald Mahar. He was debriefed by Mahar for several months when they returned to Canada"--Provided by publisher. 001394416 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001394416 60010 $$aBrik, Yevgeni Vladimirovich. 001394416 60010 $$aMahar, Donald G.,$$d1947- 001394416 61010 $$aSoviet Union.$$bKomitet gosudarstvennoĭ bezopasnosti$$xHistory. 001394416 650_0 $$aEspionage, Soviet$$zCanada$$xHistory. 001394416 650_0 $$aSpies$$zCanada$$vBiography. 001394416 650_0 $$aSpies$$zSoviet Union$$vBiography. 001394416 650_0 $$aCold War. 001394416 650_0 $$aIntelligence officers$$zCanada$$vBiography. 001394416 651_0 $$aCanada$$xForeign relations$$zSoviet Union. 001394416 651_0 $$aSoviet Union$$xForeign relations$$zCanada. 001394416 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001394416 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aMahar, Donald G.$$tShattered illusions : KGB Cold War espionage in Canada.$$dLanham : Rowman & Littlefield, [2017]$$z9781442269132 001394416 830_0 $$aSecurity and professional intelligence education series. 001394416 852__ $$bebk 001394416 85640 $$3ProQuest Ebook Central Academic Complete $$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/usiricelib-ebooks/detail.action?docID=4760980$$zOnline Access 001394416 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1394416$$pGLOBAL_SET 001394416 980__ $$aBIB 001394416 980__ $$aEBOOK 001394416 982__ $$aEbook 001394416 983__ $$aOnline
