It examines the storytelling mechanisms of gay themed lyrics, and how these form protests and become enabling tools for (black) gay men to discuss issues such as living on the down-low and HIV/AIDS. It considers how the biased promotion of feminised gay male artists/characters in mainstream entertainment industry has rendered masculinity an exclusively male heterosexual property, providing a representational framework for men to identify with a form of "homosexual masculinity"--One that is constructed without having to either victimise anything feminine or necessarily convert to femininity. The book makes a strong case that it is possible for individuals (like gay rappers) to perform masculinity against masculinity, and open up a new way of striving for gender equality.--$$cProvided by publisher. 001398206 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from digital title page (viewed on February 04, 2019). 001398206 650_0 $$aRap musicians. 001398206 650_0 $$aMusicians, Black. 001398206 650_0 $$aGay musicians. 001398206 650_0 $$aMusic$$xSocial aspects. 001398206 650_0 $$aMasculinity in music. 001398206 650_6 $$aRappeurs. 001398206 650_6 $$aMusiciens noirs. 001398206 650_6 $$aMusiciens homosexuels. 001398206 650_6 $$aMusique$$xAspect social. 001398206 650_6 $$aMasculinité dans la musique. 001398206 655_0 $$aElectronic books 001398206 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aLi, Xinling.$$tBlack Masculinity and Hip-Hop Music : Black Gay Men Who Rap.$$dSingapore : Palgrave Macmillan US, ©2018$$z9789811335129$$w(OCoLC)1083190798 001398206 852__ $$bebk 001398206 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-13-3513-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001398206 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1398206$$pGLOBAL_SET 001398206 980__ $$aBIB 001398206 980__ $$aEBOOK 001398206 982__ $$aEbook 001398206 983__ $$aOnline 001398206 994__ $$a92$$bISE
