It introduces the concept of bio-bordering, using it to capture reverse patterns of bordering and ordering practices linked to transnational biometric data exchange regimes. The concept is useful to reconstruct how the territorial foundations of national state autonomy are partially reclaimed and, at the same time, partially purposefully suspended. The book focuses on the Prüm system, which facilitates the mandatory exchange of forensic DNA data amongst EU Member States. The Prüm system is an underexplored phenomenon, representing diverse instances of bio-bordering and providing a complex picture of the hidden (dis)integration of Europe. Particular legal, scientific, technical and political dimensions related to the governance and uses of biometric technologies in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom are specifically explored to demonstrate both similar and distinct patterns. 001430874 650_0 $$aBiometric identification$$xSocial aspects. 001430874 650_0 $$aCriminal investigation$$xData processing. 001430874 650_0 $$aBiometry$$xData processing. 001430874 650_0 $$aDNA data banks. 001430874 650_0 $$aLaw enforcement$$xData processing. 001430874 650_0 $$aLaw enforcement$$zEurope$$xInternational cooperation. 001430874 650_0 $$aBoundaries$$xSocial aspects$$zEuropean Union countries. 001430874 650_6 $$aIdentification biométrique$$xAspect social. 001430874 650_6 $$aEnquêtes criminelles$$xInformatique. 001430874 650_6 $$aBiométrie$$xInformatique. 001430874 650_6 $$aBanques de données génétiques (Génétique légale) 001430874 650_6 $$aLois$$xApplication$$xInformatique. 001430874 650_6 $$aLois$$xApplication$$zEurope$$xCoopération internationale. 001430874 650_6 $$aFrontières$$xAspect social$$zPays de l'Union européenne. 001430874 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001430874 7001_ $$aGranja, Rafaela,$$eauthor. 001430874 7001_ $$aMachado, Helena,$$eauthor. 001430874 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aAmelung, Nina.$$tModes of bio-bordering.$$dSingapore : Palgrave Macmillan, 2020$$z9811581827$$z9789811581823$$w(OCoLC)1178906353 001430874 852__ $$bebk 001430874 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-15-8183-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.2 001430874 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1430874$$pGLOBAL_SET 001430874 980__ $$aBIB 001430874 980__ $$aEBOOK 001430874 982__ $$aEbook 001430874 983__ $$aOnline 001430874 994__ $$a92$$bISE
