Human footprints are prominent among the long-time under-researched features of the context in caves with rock art. In order to compensate for this neglect an innovative research program has been established several years ago that focuses on the merging of indigenous knowledge and western archaeological science for the benefit of both sides. The book gathers first the methodological diversity in the analysis of human tracks. Here major representatives of anthropological, statistical and traditional approaches feature the multi-layered methods available for the analysis of human tracks. Second it compiles case studies from around the globe of prehistoric human tracks. For the first time, the most important sites which have been found worldwide are published in a single publication. The third focus of this book is on firsthand experiences of researchers with indigenous tracking experts from around the globe, expounding on how archaeological sciencecan benefit from the ancestral knowledge. This book will be of interest to professional archaeologists, graduate students, ecologists, cultural anthropologists and laypeople, especially those focussing on hunting-gathering and pastoralist communities and who appreciate indigenous knowledge.--$$cProvided by publisher. 001430957 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed March 31, 2021). 001430957 650_0 $$aFootprints, Fossil$$vCongresses. 001430957 650_0 $$aFootprints$$vCongresses. 001430957 650_0 $$aPaleoanthropology$$vCongresses. 001430957 650_0 $$aPrehistoric peoples$$vCongresses. 001430957 650_0 $$aArchaeology. 001430957 650_0 $$aPhysical anthropology. 001430957 650_6 $$aEmpreintes fossiles$$vCongrès. 001430957 650_6 $$aPaléoanthropologie$$vCongrès. 001430957 650_6 $$aArchéologie. 001430957 650_6 $$aAnthropologie physique. 001430957 655_7 $$aConference papers and proceedings.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01423772 001430957 655_7 $$aConference papers and proceedings.$$2lcgft 001430957 655_7 $$aActes de congrès.$$2rvmgf 001430957 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001430957 7001_ $$aPastoors, Andreas,$$eeditor. 001430957 7001_ $$aLenssen-Erz, Tilman,$$eeditor. 001430957 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tReading prehistoric human tracks.$$dCham : Springer, [2021]$$z3030604055$$z9783030604059$$w(OCoLC)1191712952 001430957 852__ $$bebk 001430957 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-60406-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.2 001430957 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1430957$$pGLOBAL_SET 001430957 980__ $$aBIB 001430957 980__ $$aEBOOK 001430957 982__ $$aEbook 001430957 983__ $$aOnline 001430957 994__ $$a92$$bISE
