It focuses on the Dutch town of Kampen and considers the exclusion of offenders through banishment and the redemption of individuals after their exile. Banishment was a common punishment in late medieval Europe, especially for sexual offences. In Kampen it was also meted out as a consequence of the non-payment of fines, after which people could arrange repayment schemes which allowed them to return. The books firstly considers the legal context of the practice of banishment, before discussing punishment in Kampen more generally. In the third chapter the legal practice of banishment as a punitive and coercive measure is discussed. The final chapter focuses on the redemption of exiles, either because their punishment was completed, or because they arranged for the payment of outstanding fines. 001431219 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001431219 650_0 $$aExile (Punishment)$$zNetherlands$$zKampen$$xHistory$$yTo 1500. 001431219 651_0 $$aKampen (Netherlands)$$xHistory. 001431219 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001431219 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001431219 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aFRANKOT, EDDA.$$tBANISHMENT IN THE LATE MEDIEVAL EASTERN NETHERLANDS.$$d[Place of publication not identified] : PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2021$$z3030888665$$w(OCoLC)1267586181 001431219 852__ $$bebk 001431219 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-88867-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.2 001431219 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1431219$$pGLOBAL_SET 001431219 980__ $$aBIB 001431219 980__ $$aEBOOK 001431219 982__ $$aEbook 001431219 983__ $$aOnline 001431219 994__ $$a92$$bISE
