Contributors address concepts such as vulnerability, resilience, precarity and resistance in the Anglophone world through an analysis of memoirs, films, TV series, and crime and literary fiction across India, Ireland, Canada, Australia, the US, and the UK. Chapters explore literary and media displays of precarious conditions to examine whether these are exacerbated when intersecting with gender and ethnic identities, thus resulting in structural forms of vulnerability that generate and justify oppression, as well as forms of individual or collective resistance and/or resilience. Substantial insights are drawn from Animal Studies, Critical Race Studies, Human Rights Studies, Post-Humanism and Postcolonialism. This book will be of interest to scholars in Gender Studies, Media Studies, Sociology, Culture, Literature and History. Maria Isabel Romero-Ruiz is Lecturer in Social History and Cultural Studies at the University of Malaga, Spain. She specialises in the social and cultural history of deviant women and children in Victorian England, as well as in contemporary gender and sexual identity issues in Neo-Victorian fiction. Pilar Cuder-Dominguez is Professor of English at the University of Huelva, Spain, where she teaches the literature and cultures of Great Britain and Anglophone Canada. Her research deals with the intersections of gender, genre, race, and nation. 001431396 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001431396 650_0 $$aSex role in popular culture. 001431396 650_0 $$aSex role in literature. 001431396 650_0 $$aWomen in popular culture. 001431396 650_0 $$aWomen in literature. 001431396 650_0 $$aVulnerability (Personality trait) in popular culture. 001431396 650_0 $$aVulnerability (Personality trait) in literature. 001431396 650_0 $$aViolence in popular culture. 001431396 650_0 $$aViolence in literature. 001431396 650_0 $$aWomen$$xViolence against. 001431396 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001431396 7001_ $$aRomero Ruiz, María Isabel,$$eeditor.$$1https://isni.org/isni/0000000077855462 001431396 7001_ $$aCuder Domínguez, Pilar,$$eeditor.$$1https://isni.org/isni/0000000115620956 001431396 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tCultural representations of gender vulnerability and resistance.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2022$$z9783030955076$$w(OCoLC)1308684013 001431396 830_0 $$aThinking gender in transnational times. 001431396 852__ $$bebk 001431396 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-95508-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.2 001431396 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1431396$$pGLOBAL_SET 001431396 980__ $$aBIB 001431396 980__ $$aEBOOK 001431396 982__ $$aEbook 001431396 983__ $$aOnline 001431396 994__ $$a92$$bISE
