These include its occurrence in various religious traditions, its different forms, its elaborations, how it has been understood by Western theologians, and differing views of revelation's ontological status. It has been remarked that revelation is most at home in theistic traditions, and this book gives each of the three Abrahamic traditions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - its own chapter. Revelation, however, is not limited to theistic traditions; forms found in Buddhism and nondevotional (nontheistic) Hinduism are also explored. In the book's final chapter a particularly significant form of religious revelation is identified and examined: pervasive revelation. The theistic manifestation of this form of revelation, pervasive in the sense that it may occurs in all the domains or dimensions of human existence, is shown to be richly represented in the Psalms, where God's presence may be found in the heavens, in the growing of grass, and in one's daily going out and coming in. Pervasive revelation of religious reality is also shown to be present in the Buddhist tradition. James Kellenberger is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at California State University, Northridge, USA. His previous books include Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, Dying to Self and Detachment, and, most recently, Religion; Pacifism, and Nonviolence and The Presence of God and the Presence of Persons. 001432371 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001432371 650_0 $$aRevelation$$xChristianity. 001432371 650_0 $$aRevelation$$xJudaism. 001432371 650_0 $$aRevelation$$xIslam. 001432371 650_0 $$aRevelation$$xBuddhism. 001432371 650_0 $$aRevelation$$xHinduism. 001432371 650_0 $$aReligion$$xPhilosophy. 001432371 650_6 $$aRévélation$$xJudaïsme. 001432371 650_6 $$aRévélation$$xIslam. 001432371 650_6 $$aRévélation$$xBouddhisme. 001432371 650_6 $$aRévélation$$xHindouisme. 001432371 650_6 $$aReligion$$xPhilosophie. 001432371 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001432371 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aKellenberger, James.$$tReligious Revelation.$$dCham : Springer International Publishing AG, ©2020$$z9783030538712 001432371 830_0 $$aPalgrave frontiers in philosophy of religion. 001432371 852__ $$bebk 001432371 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-53872-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001432371 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1432371$$pGLOBAL_SET 001432371 980__ $$aBIB 001432371 980__ $$aEBOOK 001432371 982__ $$aEbook 001432371 983__ $$aOnline 001432371 994__ $$a92$$bISE
