This major conceptual shift takes away lengthy theoretical derivations in the face-to-face interactions with students and focuses on the summary of key equations and concepts; and to practice these on well-chosen example problems. For this new, 2nd edition, many examples and design modifications have been added, so that the learning-by-doing features of this book make it easier to understand the concepts and put them into practice. The theoretical derivations are provided as additional reading and students must study and review the derivations in a self-study approach. The book provides the theoretical foundations to solve a comprehensive design project in tensile testing. A classical clip-on extensometer serves as the demonstrator on which to apply the provided concepts. The major goal is to derive the calibration curve based on different approaches, i.e., analytical mechanics and based on the finite element method, and to consider further design questions such as technical drawings, manufacturing, and cost assessment. Working with two concepts, i.e., analytical and computational mechanics strengthens the vertical integration of knowledge and allows the student to compare and understand the different concepts, as well as highlighting the essential need for benchmarking any numerical result. 001432850 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record; online resource viewed November 3, 2021. 001432850 650_0 $$aFinite element method. 001432850 650_0 $$aContinuum mechanics. 001432850 650_0 $$aMechanics, Applied. 001432850 650_0 $$aField theory (Physics) 001432850 650_0 $$aMaterials science. 001432850 650_6 $$aMéthode des éléments finis. 001432850 650_6 $$aMécanique des milieux continus. 001432850 650_6 $$aMécanique appliquée. 001432850 650_6 $$aThéorie des champs (Physique) 001432850 650_6 $$aScience des matériaux. 001432850 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001432850 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aÖchsner, Andreas.$$tProject-based introduction to computational statics.$$bSecond edition.$$dCham : Springer, [2021]$$z3030587703$$w(OCoLC)1183421690 001432850 852__ $$bebk 001432850 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-58771-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001432850 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1432850$$pGLOBAL_SET 001432850 980__ $$aBIB 001432850 980__ $$aEBOOK 001432850 982__ $$aEbook 001432850 983__ $$aOnline 001432850 994__ $$a92$$bISE
