It does so by contrasting their voices with the claims made by prohibitionists: those advocating the prohibition of prostitution or, at least, the prohibition of the purchase of sexual services, and notes scholarly research that gives context to those accounts and claims. Each chapter is dedicated to a particular issue which is given currency in academic and public debates on sex work. The first part of each chapter reviews the state of research and publicly-aired contentions and the second part compares sex workers' voices with claims from prohibitionists. It highlights the gap between what many sex workers have to say about themselves and what theorizing prohibitionists say about all prostitution. It argues that there is often a striking contrast in attitude, perspective, interpretation and valuation. This books speaks primarily to prohibitionist thinking and sex work stereotyping and, secondarily, to the debate on decriminalization of sex work. 001432965 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from digital title page (viewed on January 11, 2021). 001432965 650_0 $$aProstitution. 001432965 650_0 $$aProstitutes$$xAttitudes. 001432965 650_0 $$aProstitutes' customers$$xAttitudes. 001432965 650_0 $$aProstitution$$xLaw and legislation. 001432965 650_6 $$aProstituées$$xAttitudes. 001432965 650_6 $$aClients de la prostitution$$xAttitudes. 001432965 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001432965 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783030615529 001432965 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783030615512$$z3030615510$$w(OCoLC)1203007949 001432965 852__ $$bebk 001432965 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-61552-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001432965 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1432965$$pGLOBAL_SET 001432965 980__ $$aBIB 001432965 980__ $$aEBOOK 001432965 982__ $$aEbook 001432965 983__ $$aOnline 001432965 994__ $$a92$$bISE
