Because these tend to be conflated into a single conflict, attempts at peace have not worked. Underpinned by conflict theory, observations of those involved and analyses of polling data, the book argues that peace will not be possible until each of the dispute's distinct conflicts are managed. Early chapters establish a theoretical framework to explain and define the different conflicts. This framework is then applied to the history of the dispute. The actions and perceptions of Israelis and Palestinians make sense when viewed through this framework. The Oslo peace process is examined in detail to explain how and why each side's expectations were not met. Ultimately, lessons in ways to build a future viable peace are drawn from the failures of the past. Bren Carlill has spent over 20 years professionally or academically focused on the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, including living in Israel for several years. He has also worked in Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Department of Home Affairs, where he focused on the civil and human rights conditions and the security situations of various Middle East and South Asian countries. 001433282 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed March 1, 2021). 001433282 650_0 $$aArab-Israeli conflict. 001433282 650_0 $$aArab-Israeli conflict$$y1993-$$xPeace. 001433282 650_0 $$aPeace-building. 001433282 650_6 $$aConflit israélo-arabe. 001433282 650_6 $$aConflit israélo-arabe$$y1993-$$xPaix. 001433282 650_6 $$aConsolidation de la paix. 001433282 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001433282 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3030631842$$z9783030631840$$w(OCoLC)1199328774 001433282 852__ $$bebk 001433282 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-63185-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001433282 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1433282$$pGLOBAL_SET 001433282 980__ $$aBIB 001433282 980__ $$aEBOOK 001433282 982__ $$aEbook 001433282 983__ $$aOnline 001433282 994__ $$a92$$bISE
