It looks at multiple and multidirectional flows, transfers, and circulations of ideas, people, and practices as Germany and the US were embedded in, and created by, an interconnected world of empires. This relationship was not exceptional, but emblematic of the diverse entanglements that created colonial globality. Colonial entanglements between Germany and the United States took on many forms, but these shared and intersecting histories have been underanalyzed. Traditionally, Germany and the United States have been understood to have taken, respectively, an authoritarian and liberal path into modernity. But there is no neat dichotomy, as the contributors to this book illustrate. There are many more similarities than have previously been appreciated and they are the result of multilayered entanglements made visible via conquest, settler societies, racialization, and rule of difference. Building on present historiographies of empires, colonialism, and globalization, this book introduces new analytical possibilities for examining these two relatively understudied empires alongside each other, as well as at their intersections.--$$cProvided by publisher. 001433622 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from digital title page (viewed on February 08, 2021). 001433622 650_0 $$aImperialism. 001433622 650_6 $$aImpérialisme. 001433622 651_0 $$aGermany$$xColonies$$xHistory$$y19th century. 001433622 651_0 $$aGermany$$xColonies$$xHistory$$y20th century. 001433622 651_0 $$aGermany$$xForeign relations$$zUnited States. 001433622 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xForeign relations$$zGermany. 001433622 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xTerritories and possessions$$xHistory$$y19th century. 001433622 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xTerritories and possessions$$xHistory$$y20th century. 001433622 651_0 $$aGermany$$xForeign relations$$y19th century. 001433622 651_0 $$aGermany$$xForeign relations$$y20th century. 001433622 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xForeign relations$$y19th century. 001433622 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xForeign relations$$y20th century. 001433622 651_6 $$aAllemagne$$xRelations extérieures$$zÉtats-Unis. 001433622 651_6 $$aÉtats-Unis$$xRelations extérieures$$zAllemagne. 001433622 651_6 $$aÉtats-Unis$$xTerritoires et possessions$$xHistoire$$y19e siècle. 001433622 651_6 $$aÉtats-Unis$$xTerritoires et possessions$$xHistoire$$y20e siècle. 001433622 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001433622 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001433622 7001_ $$aLahti, Janne,$$eeditor. 001433622 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tGerman and United States colonialism in a connected world.$$dCham, Switzerland : Palgrave Macmillan, [2020]$$z9783030532055$$w(OCoLC)1158210173 001433622 830_0 $$aCambridge imperial and post-colonial studies series. 001433622 852__ $$bebk 001433622 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-53206-2$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001433622 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1433622$$pGLOBAL_SET 001433622 980__ $$aBIB 001433622 980__ $$aEBOOK 001433622 982__ $$aEbook 001433622 983__ $$aOnline 001433622 994__ $$a92$$bISE
