A Cultural History of Spanish Speakers in Japan focuses on the intellectuals, literature, translations, festivals, cultural associations, music (bolero, tropical music, and pop, including reggaeton), dance (flamenco, tango and salsa), radio, newspapers, magazines, libraries, and blogs produced in Spanish, in Japan, by Latin Americans and Spaniards who have lived in that country over the last three decades. Based on in-depth research in archives throughout the country as well as field work including several interviews, Japanese-speaking Mexican scholar Araceli Tinajero uncovers a transnational, contemporary cultural history that is not only important for today but for future generations. Araceli Tinajero is professor of Hispanic literatures at The City College of New York and at the Graduate Center. She is the author of Orientalismo en el modernismo hispanoamericano, El Lector: A History of the Cigar Factory, and Kokoro: A Mexican Woman in Japan. Tinajero is the editor or co-editor of various volumes including Exilio y cosmopolitismo en el arte y la literatura hispanica, Orientalisms of the Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian World, Technology and Culture in Twentieth Century Mexico, and Handbook on Cuban History, Literature, and the Arts. She is the Book Review Editor of the journal Asia / America Latina. 001433825 546__ $$aTranslated from Spanish. 001433825 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001433825 650_0 $$aLatin Americans$$zJapan$$xSocial life and customs$$y21st century. 001433825 650_0 $$aDominicans (Dominican Republic)$$zJapan$$xSocial life and customs$$y21st century. 001433825 650_0 $$aSpaniards$$zJapan$$xSocial life and customs$$y21st century. 001433825 650_0 $$aCulture diffusion$$zJapan. 001433825 650_6 $$aLatino-Américains$$zJapon$$xMœurs et coutumes$$y21e siècle. 001433825 650_6 $$aDominicains (Peuple)$$zJapon$$xMœurs et coutumes$$y21e siècle. 001433825 650_6 $$aEspagnols$$zJapon$$xMœurs et coutumes$$y21e siècle. 001433825 650_6 $$aDiffusion culturelle$$zJapon. 001433825 651_0 $$aJapan$$xEmigration and immigration. 001433825 651_0 $$aLatin America$$xEmigration and immigration. 001433825 651_0 $$aDominican Republic$$xEmigration and immigration. 001433825 651_0 $$aSpain$$xEmigration and immigration. 001433825 651_6 $$aAmérique latine$$xÉmigration et immigration. 001433825 651_6 $$aEspagne$$xÉmigration et immigration. 001433825 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001433825 7001_ $$aKarpoich, Veronica,$$etranslator. 001433825 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aTinajero, Araceli.$$tA Cultural History of Spanish Speakers in Japan.$$dCham : Springer International Publishing AG, ©2021$$z9783030644871 001433825 830_0 $$aHistorical and cultural interconnections between Latin America and Asia. 001433825 852__ $$bebk 001433825 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-64488-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001433825 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1433825$$pGLOBAL_SET 001433825 980__ $$aBIB 001433825 980__ $$aEBOOK 001433825 982__ $$aEbook 001433825 983__ $$aOnline 001433825 994__ $$a92$$bISE
