The study is focused on Ventimiglia, an Italian town located 6 km away from the French-Italian border on the gulf of Genoa with a long story of commerce, custom and smuggling activities related to its proximity to the frontier. While several projects have analyzed other symbolic places of the EU migration crisis such as Lampedusa, Calais and Lesvos, there is a severe empirical gap regarding Ventimiglia, a border town at the very geographic core of the Schengen area. This case study may provide emblematic insights into what European migratory movements are currently revealing in terms of the lack of shared responsibility between EU Member States, the EU common asylum system and respect for human rights, with increasing claims for national sovereignty by some Member States. 001434000 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001434000 650_0 $$aBorder security$$zItaly$$zVentimiglia. 001434000 650_6 $$aSécurité frontalière$$zItalie$$zVintimille. 001434000 651_0 $$aVentimiglia (Italy)$$xEmigration and immigration. 001434000 651_0 $$aItaly$$xEmigration and immigration$$xGovernment policy. 001434000 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001434000 7001_ $$aAmigoni, Livio,$$eeditor. 001434000 7001_ $$aAru, Silvia,$$eeditor. 001434000 7001_ $$aBonnin, Ivan,$$eeditor. 001434000 7001_ $$aProglio, Gabriele,$$eeditor. 001434000 7001_ $$aVergnano, Cecilia,$$eeditor. 001434000 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tDebordering Europe.$$dCham : Palgrave Macmillan, [2021]$$z9783030565176$$z3030565173 001434000 830_0 $$aMigration, diasporas and citizenship. 001434000 852__ $$bebk 001434000 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-56518-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001434000 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1434000$$pGLOBAL_SET 001434000 980__ $$aBIB 001434000 980__ $$aEBOOK 001434000 982__ $$aEbook 001434000 983__ $$aOnline 001434000 994__ $$a92$$bISE
