Despite taking the economics world by storm with a mercurial ability for statistical analysis, Clarks work has been largely overlooked in the 30 years since his death. His career was punctuated by a number of firsts. He was the first economist to derive the concept of GNP, the first to broach development economics and to foresee the re-emergence of India and China within the global economy. In 1945, he predicted the rise and persistence of inflation when taxation levels exceeded 25 per cent of GNP. And he was also the first economist to debunk post-war predictions of mass hunger by arguing that rapid population growth engendered economic development. Clark wandered through the fields of applied economics in much the same way as he rambled through the English countryside and the Australian bush. His imaginative wanderings qualify him as the eminent gypsy economist for the 20th century. Alex Millmow was formerly an associate professor in economics at Federation University Australia where he is now an honorary research fellow. He is also an honorary research fellow at the School of History, Australian National University. He is currently President of the History of Economic Thought Society of Australia. His last book was A History of Australasian Economic Thought IN 2017. 001434859 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed March 31, 2021). 001434859 60010 $$aClark, Colin,$$d1905-1989. 001434859 650_0 $$aEconomists$$zAustralia$$vBiography. 001434859 650_0 $$aEconomics$$xHistory$$y20th century. 001434859 650_6 $$aÉconomistes$$zAustralie$$vBiographies. 001434859 650_6 $$aÉconomie politique$$xHistoire$$y20e siècle. 001434859 655_7 $$aBiographies.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01919896 001434859 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001434859 655_7 $$aBiographies.$$2lcgft 001434859 655_7 $$aBiographies.$$2rvmgf 001434859 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001434859 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9813369450$$z9789813369450$$w(OCoLC)1228314614 001434859 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in the history of economic thought series. 001434859 852__ $$bebk 001434859 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-33-6946-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001434859 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1434859$$pGLOBAL_SET 001434859 980__ $$aBIB 001434859 980__ $$aEBOOK 001434859 982__ $$aEbook 001434859 983__ $$aOnline 001434859 994__ $$a92$$bISE
