Building on an innovative and interdisciplinary methodology, which combines memory studies, historiography, thematic criticism, and narratology, this book explores the main topoi, themes, and masterplots of an extensive corpus of novels and memoirs to assess the contribution of literature to the reshaping of Italian memory and identity after the end of Fascism. By exploring the influence that public memory exercises on literary depictions and, in return, the contribution of literary texts to the formation and dissemination of a discourse about the past, the book examines to what extent Italian literature helped readers form an ethical awareness of the crimes committed by members of their national community during World War II. Guido Bartolini is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University College Cork, Ireland, where he works on the cultural memory of fascism and its representation in Italian literature and cinema. . 001435767 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001435767 647_7 $$aWorld War$$d(1939-1945)$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01180924 001435767 650_0 $$aItalian literature$$y20th century$$xHistory and criticism. 001435767 650_0 $$aWorld War, 1939-1945$$xLiterature and the war. 001435767 650_0 $$aWorld War, 1939-1945$$zItaly. 001435767 650_0 $$aCollective memory and literature$$zItaly. 001435767 650_6 $$aLittérature italienne$$y20e siècle$$xHistoire et critique. 001435767 650_6 $$aGuerre mondiale, 1939-1945$$xLittérature et guerre. 001435767 650_6 $$aGuerre mondiale, 1939-1945$$zItalie. 001435767 650_6 $$aMémoire collective et littérature$$zItalie. 001435767 655_7 $$aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411635 001435767 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001435767 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBartolini, Guido.$$tItalian literature of the Axis War.$$d[S.l.] : Palgrave Macmillan, 2021$$z303063180X$$w(OCoLC)1199328803 001435767 830_0 $$aItalian and Italian American studies (Palgrave Macmillan (Firm)) 001435767 852__ $$bebk 001435767 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-63181-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001435767 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1435767$$pGLOBAL_SET 001435767 980__ $$aBIB 001435767 980__ $$aEBOOK 001435767 982__ $$aEbook 001435767 983__ $$aOnline 001435767 994__ $$a92$$bISE
