Steinvorth argues that self-regulation is the common property of all being, that we can talk of an increase or escalation of self-regulation in the evolution of being, and that self-regulation becomes self-determination in man. Considering objections to this view related to questions of free will, consciousness, the naturalistic fallacy, and teleology, he draws on cybernetics, dual process theory, physical cosmology, and Leibnizs demiurgic idea of measuring the goodness of a world by the number of possibilities opened up by the world. To test his approach and show its political relevance, he applies it to political liberalism. Ulrich Steinvorth is Professor Emeritus at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and lives in the United States. He has published numerous books and articles on political philosophy, ethics, and metaphysics in German, English, and French, and has taught philosophy at universities in Germany, France, Turkey, Japan, China, and the USA. 001435841 650_0 $$aMetaphysics. 001435841 650_0 $$aAnalysis (Philosophy) 001435841 650_6 $$aMétaphysique. 001435841 650_6 $$aPhilosophie analytique. 001435841 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001435841 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aSteinvorth, Ulrich.$$tPlea for naturalistic metaphysics.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2021$$z9783030726027$$w(OCoLC)1242820681 001435841 830_0 $$aPalgrave pivot. 001435841 852__ $$bebk 001435841 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-72603-4$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001435841 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1435841$$pGLOBAL_SET 001435841 980__ $$aBIB 001435841 980__ $$aEBOOK 001435841 982__ $$aEbook 001435841 983__ $$aOnline 001435841 994__ $$a92$$bISE
