Despite the misconception that Italy is a water-scarce country, is in fact quite rich in water resources. Such resources, however, are unevenly distributed over the Italian territory. Italy's northern regions rely on quite an abundant quantity of freshwater, whereas in the southern area water endowment is limited. Moreover, climatic differences between North and South contribute to widen the divide. This disparity has notable consequences of socio-economic character, some of which, in turn, feed back into the environmental conditions of Italian regions: pollution, floods, landslides and droughts are among the problems affecting the country. There are numerous features of water use and consumption that distinguish Italy from other comparable countries, such as the significant role played by agriculture (a water-intensive activity), a lead position in the consumption of bottled water, lower-than-average prices of water and a far-from-optimal efficiency of waterworks. All such aspects, and many others, make Italy an essential case study. 001436655 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed May 24, 2021). 001436655 650_0 $$aWater-supply$$zItaly$$xManagement. 001436655 650_0 $$aWater-supply$$xLaw and legislation$$zItaly. 001436655 650_0 $$aWater resources development$$xGovernment policy$$zItaly. 001436655 650_6 $$aEau$$xApprovisionnement$$zItalie$$xGestion. 001436655 650_6 $$aRessources en eau$$xExploitation$$xPolitique gouvernementale$$zItalie. 001436655 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001436655 7001_ $$aTurrini, Paolo,$$eeditor. 001436655 7001_ $$aMassarutto, Antonio,$$eeditor. 001436655 7001_ $$aPertile, Marco,$$eeditor. 001436655 7001_ $$aDe Carli, Alessandro,$$eeditor. 001436655 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tWater law, policy and economics in Italy.$$dCham : Springer, 2021$$z3030690741$$z9783030690748$$w(OCoLC)1230231112 001436655 830_0 $$aGlobal issues in water policy ;$$v28.$$x2211-0631 001436655 852__ $$bebk 001436655 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-69075-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001436655 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1436655$$pGLOBAL_SET 001436655 980__ $$aBIB 001436655 980__ $$aEBOOK 001436655 982__ $$aEbook 001436655 983__ $$aOnline 001436655 994__ $$a92$$bISE
