Drawing on ethnographic research in Amsterdam and New York City, Klaver shows that global cities harbor nodes in transnational religious networks. By taking a lived religion approach, media is analysed as an integral part of everyday practices of interaction, expression and consumption of religion. Key question are raised regarding how processes of mediatization shape, alter and challenge this thriving cosmopolitan expression of Pentecostalism. Current debates in the study of religion are also addressed: religious belonging and community in global cities; the interrelation between media technology, religious practices and beliefs; religion, media and social engagement in global cities; media and emerging modes of religious leadership and authority. Pressing societal issues such as institutional responses to sexual abuse of children, views on gender roles, misogyny and mediated constructions of femininity are discussed. The book will be of interest to students and researchers of anthropology of religion, religious studies, sociology of religion, particularly religion and globalisation, religion and media and urban religion. 001438076 545__ $$aMiranda Klaver is Professor, Anthropology of Religion at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. 001438076 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001438076 61020 $$aHillsong Church. 001438076 650_0 $$aPentecostal churches$$zAustralia. 001438076 650_0 $$aBig churches$$zAustralia. 001438076 650_0 $$aMass media$$xReligious aspects. 001438076 650_6 $$aÉglises pentecôtistes$$zAustralie. 001438076 650_6 $$aGrandes églises (Communautés)$$zAustralie. 001438076 650_6 $$aMédias$$xAspect religieux. 001438076 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001438076 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3030742989$$z9783030742980$$w(OCoLC)1242465179 001438076 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aKlaver, Miranda.$$tHillsong Church$$z9783030742980$$w(OCoLC)1259537757 001438076 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in lived religion and societal challenges. 001438076 852__ $$bebk 001438076 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-74299-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001438076 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1438076$$pGLOBAL_SET 001438076 980__ $$aBIB 001438076 980__ $$aEBOOK 001438076 982__ $$aEbook 001438076 983__ $$aOnline 001438076 994__ $$a92$$bISE
