This recorded history traces his evolution from the era of Beat poetry and projective verse, through the period of the Black Arts Movement and cultural nationalism, and on to his commitments to third world Marxism, which characterized the last decades of his life. The music enfolding Barakas recitations ranges from traditional African drumming, to doo wop, rhythm and blues, soul and the avant garde jazz that was his great love and the subject of so much of his writing, and includes both in-studio sessions and live concert performances. This body of work offers a rare opportunity to think about not only jazz/poetry, but the poet in the recording studio and the relations of text to score. 001438138 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001438138 60010 $$aBaraka, Amiri,$$d1934-2014$$xCriticism and interpretation. 001438138 655_7 $$aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411635 001438138 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001438138 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aNielsen, Aldon Lynn.$$tInside songs of Amiri Baraka.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2021$$z9783030757571$$w(OCoLC)1255874358 001438138 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in music and literature. 001438138 852__ $$bebk 001438138 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-75758-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001438138 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1438138$$pGLOBAL_SET 001438138 980__ $$aBIB 001438138 980__ $$aEBOOK 001438138 982__ $$aEbook 001438138 983__ $$aOnline 001438138 994__ $$a92$$bISE
