Despite both parties sharing a number of common interests, including trade, energy, climate change, security and cultural cooperation, the multilateral cooperation framework remains limited, with most engagement taking place bilaterally, between individual European and GCC countries. The book reassesses the potential and prospects for the EUs engagement with GCC countries based on the recalibration and reconciliation of both parties national and regional interests. Taking a thematic approach, each of the three sections of the book examines a key dimension of the relationship, its current status and its path forward. Dr Adel Abdel Ghafar is a fellow in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings and at the Brookings Doha Center, where he was previously Director of Research. He specializes in political economy and his research interests include state-society relations, socio-economic development and foreign policy in the MENA region. Dr Silvia Colombo is Senior Fellow in the Mediterranean and Middle East and Italys Foreign Policy programs at the Rome-based Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI). She is an expert on Middle Eastern politics and in this capacity she is working on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, EU-GCC relations, political and security developments in the MENA, conflict management and democratization, and gender and youth inclusion. 001438722 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed August 17, 2021). 001438722 61020 $$aEuropean Union. 001438722 61020 $$aGulf Cooperation Council. 001438722 651_0 $$aEuropean Union countries$$xForeign relations$$zPersian Gulf States. 001438722 651_0 $$aPersian Gulf States$$xForeign relations$$zEuropean Union countries. 001438722 651_6 $$aPays de l'Union européenne$$xRelations extérieures$$zÉtats du golfe Persique. 001438722 651_6 $$aÉtats du golfe Persique$$xRelations extérieures$$zPays de l'Union européenne. 001438722 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001438722 7001_ $$aAbdel Ghafar, Adel,$$eeditor. 001438722 7001_ $$aColombo, Silvia,$$eeditor. 001438722 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9811602786$$z9789811602788$$w(OCoLC)1231959303 001438722 830_0 $$aContemporary Gulf studies. 001438722 852__ $$bebk 001438722 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-16-0279-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001438722 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1438722$$pGLOBAL_SET 001438722 980__ $$aBIB 001438722 980__ $$aEBOOK 001438722 982__ $$aEbook 001438722 983__ $$aOnline 001438722 994__ $$a92$$bISE
