This book casts light on these aspects of the role of law and legal actors/institutions. In the context of transition from authoritarian rule to democratic state, Brazil has produced a significant literature on the challenges and shortcomings of the transition, but little attention has been given to the role of law and legal actors/institutions. Different approaches focus on the legal mechanisms, discourses and practices used by the military regime and by the players involved in the political transition process in Brazil. A comparative perspective that takes into account different political transitions--and their legal consequences--in Europe and Latin America complements the analysis. Part 1 (4 essays) discusses some of the central issues of political transition and legal history in contemporary Brazil, focusing on the time of the transition (and its effects on transitional justice) with different perspectives, from racial and gender issues to constitutional reform and police repression. Part 2 (3 essays) brings the comparative studies on South American experiences. Part 3 (4 essays) analyses different cases of transition to democracy in Chile, Portugal, Spain and Italy. Part 4 (3 essays) proposes a historiographical and methodological approach, considering the politics of time involved in the interplay between political transitions and legal history. 001439060 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed August 30, 2021). 001439060 650_0 $$aDemocratization$$zSouth America. 001439060 650_0 $$aDemocratization$$zEurope. 001439060 650_6 $$aDémocratisation$$zAmérique du Sud. 001439060 650_6 $$aDémocratisation$$zEurope. 001439060 651_0 $$aSouth America$$xPolitics and government. 001439060 651_0 $$aEurope$$xPolitics and government. 001439060 651_6 $$aAmérique du Sud$$xPolitique et gouvernement. 001439060 651_6 $$aEurope$$xPolitique et gouvernement. 001439060 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001439060 7001_ $$aPaixão, Cristiano,$$eeditor. 001439060 7001_ $$aMeccarelli, Massimo,$$eeditor. 001439060 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3030675017$$z9783030675011$$w(OCoLC)1226761755 001439060 830_0 $$aStudies in the history of law and justice ;$$vv. 18.$$x2198-9850 001439060 852__ $$bebk 001439060 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-67502-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001439060 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1439060$$pGLOBAL_SET 001439060 980__ $$aBIB 001439060 980__ $$aEBOOK 001439060 982__ $$aEbook 001439060 983__ $$aOnline 001439060 994__ $$a92$$bISE
