The centrality of values in the collection is not surprising, given that the thematic concerns informing the essays in the book relate principally to methodological issues in economic enquiry, to the normatively constrained aggregation of personal preferences into collective choice, and to problems of logical coherence and ethical appeal in the axiom systems underlying the measurement of economic and social phenomena such as poverty, inequality and literacy. While many of the essays are more or less technical in nature, they are all explicitly motivated by considerations that go beyond the formalisms of presentation to an involvement with the role of moral reasoning in economic analysis. In particular, the essays emphasize the importance of "ought propositions" in a science which is all too often regarded as being wholly and exclusively "positive" in its orientation. The book should be of particular interest to researchers, students, and public policy makers. 001439946 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed October 7, 2021). 001439946 650_0 $$aNormative economics. 001439946 650_0 $$aEconomics$$xMoral and ethical aspects. 001439946 650_0 $$aSocial values. 001439946 650_6 $$aÉconomie normative. 001439946 650_6 $$aÉconomie politique$$xAspect moral. 001439946 650_6 $$aValeurs sociales. 001439946 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001439946 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9811604274$$z9789811604270$$w(OCoLC)1233163363 001439946 830_0 $$aThemes in economics (Springer (Firm)) 001439946 852__ $$bebk 001439946 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-16-0428-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001439946 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1439946$$pGLOBAL_SET 001439946 980__ $$aBIB 001439946 980__ $$aEBOOK 001439946 982__ $$aEbook 001439946 983__ $$aOnline 001439946 994__ $$a92$$bISE
