The changing epidemiology of patients has led to new and emerging patient needs at the end of life. Care has shifted from acute coronary syndrome patients towards elderly patients, with a high prevalence of non-ischemic cardiovascular diseases and a high burden of non-cardiovascular comorbid conditions: both increase the susceptibility of patients to developing life-threatening critical conditions. These conditions are associated with a significant symptom burden, high mortality rate, and increased length of stay. The main new challenges involve shared decision-making, symptom control (pain, dyspnea, etc.), and ethical issues (withholding/withdrawing life sustaining treatments, deactivation of implanted cardiac devices, palliative sedation), all of which necessitate formal education on end-of-life care. Written by opinion leaders in their respective fields, who share their experience with improving the cultural and clinical competence of medical/nursing teams, this volume is chiefly intended for cardiologists, anesthesiologists, palliative care doctors and nursing staff. 001440110 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed October 14, 2021). 001440110 650_0 $$aCardiovascular system$$xDiseases$$xPalliative treatment. 001440110 650_0 $$aCardiac intensive care. 001440110 650_6 $$aAppareil cardiovasculaire$$xMaladies$$xTraitement palliatif. 001440110 650_6 $$aSoins intensifs en cardiologie. 001440110 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001440110 7001_ $$aRomanĂ², M.$$q(Massimo),$$eeditor. 001440110 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aRomanĂ², Massimo$$tPalliative Care in Cardiac Intensive Care Units$$dCham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2021$$z9783030801113 001440110 852__ $$bebk 001440110 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-80112-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001440110 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1440110$$pGLOBAL_SET 001440110 980__ $$aBIB 001440110 980__ $$aEBOOK 001440110 982__ $$aEbook 001440110 983__ $$aOnline 001440110 994__ $$a92$$bISE
