The book adopts a case study approach in order to examine how homonormativity is shaping relationships within gay male culture, and between this culture and mainstream society. The book features chapters on same-sex marriage, HIV treatment, dating and hook-up culture, sexualized drug use and the world of work. Throughout these chapters, the book develops a conversation regarding the role that neoliberalism has played in defining gay male identities and practices in the UK and USA. If homonormativity is understood as the sexual politics of neoliberalism, this book considers to what extent those sexual politics pervade gay mens sense of self, their relationships with each other, their experience of the spaces they occupy in everyday life, and the identities they inhabit in the workplace. Sharif Mowlabocus is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University, New York, USA. He holds a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Sussex, UK, and is the author of several books and research articles. His research focuses primarily on Western gay male culture and its engagement with new forms of communication, mediation and representation. 001441112 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed December 1, 2021). 001441112 650_0 $$aGay men$$zGreat Britain$$xSocial conditions. 001441112 650_0 $$aGay men$$xSocial conditions. 001441112 650_6 $$aHomosexuels masculins$$zGrande-Bretagne$$xConditions sociales. 001441112 650_6 $$aHomosexuels masculins$$xConditions sociales. 001441112 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001441112 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aMowlabocus, Sharif.$$tInterrogating homonormativity.$$dCham, Switzerland : Palgrave Macmillan, 2021$$z9783030870690$$w(OCoLC)1272865171 001441112 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in (re)presenting gender. 001441112 852__ $$bebk 001441112 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-87070-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001441112 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1441112$$pGLOBAL_SET 001441112 980__ $$aBIB 001441112 980__ $$aEBOOK 001441112 982__ $$aEbook 001441112 983__ $$aOnline 001441112 994__ $$a92$$bISE
