It argues that in personal writings passions and emotions may be differently expressed than in fiction. It is also comparatist in its approach, incorporating texts from cultures as diverse as English, French, Korean and Chinese, and themes through which various emotions are invoked, such as Buddhism, death, a re-imagined Hellenic antiquity or 18th century European "Orientalism". This book is distinctive in its choice of genres (non-fictional), its period, and its cross-cultural approach. It will benefit those interested in exploring emotions as a historical and cultural product, and in enriching their knowledge of an emerging scholarly direction: studies in autobiography and memoirs, often insufficiently explored in earlier historical periods. 001441436 588__ $$aDescription based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on January 24, 2022). 001441436 650_0 $$aEmotions in literature. 001441436 650_0 $$aLiterature, Modern$$y17th century$$xHistory and criticism. 001441436 650_0 $$aLiterature, Modern$$y18th century$$xHistory and criticism. 001441436 650_0 $$aLiterature, Modern$$y19th century$$xHistory and criticism. 001441436 650_0 $$aBiography as a literary form. 001441436 650_0 $$aLetters$$xHistory and criticism. 001441436 650_6 $$aLittérature$$y17e siècle$$xHistoire et critique. 001441436 650_6 $$aLittérature$$y18e siècle$$xHistoire et critique. 001441436 650_6 $$aLittérature$$y19e siècle$$xHistoire et critique. 001441436 650_6 $$aBiographie (Genre littéraire) 001441436 650_6 $$aLettres (Genre littéraire)$$xHistoire et critique. 001441436 655_7 $$aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411635 001441436 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001441436 7001_ $$aStefanovska, Malina,$$eeditor. 001441436 7001_ $$aWu, Yinghui$$c(Professor of Chinese literature),$$eeditor. 001441436 7001_ $$aWeerdt-Pilorge, Marie-Paule de,$$eeditor. 001441436 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tEmotions in non-fictional representations of the individual, 1600-1850.$$dCham : Palgrave Macmillan, [2021]$$z9783030840044$$w(OCoLC)1264401639 001441436 852__ $$bebk 001441436 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-84005-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001441436 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1441436$$pGLOBAL_SET 001441436 980__ $$aBIB 001441436 980__ $$aEBOOK 001441436 982__ $$aEbook 001441436 983__ $$aOnline 001441436 994__ $$a92$$bISE
