In contrast, the book puts forward a model of a complex system of justice which it terms 'vindicatory' therein vendetta constitutes an authorized action, the core of which does not (just) lie in vengeance but also in settlement procedures for peace or 'composition.' The first part of the book ("Vindicatory Justice: Conceptual Analyses and Forerunners") seeks to identify the nature of vindicatory justice and to shed light on the structure of so-called vindicatory systems. In turn, the second part ("Mapping Vindicatory Justice") illustrates, using examples gathered from a range of sociolegal contexts, the dynamic relationship between composition and authorized revenge in vindicatory systems. Taken as a whole, the volume shows that applying a longue durée historical perspective to the study of revenge systems allows us to clearly recognize composition and authorized revenge as features of the same legal system, even though one of them may seem predominant (or more eye-catching) than the other in certain cultural settings"$$cProvided by the publisher. 001442877 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed November 30, 2021). 001442877 650_0 $$aRevenge$$xPhilosophy. 001442877 650_0 $$aVendetta$$xPhilosophy. 001442877 650_0 $$aPunishment$$xPhilosophy. 001442877 650_0 $$aLex talionis. 001442877 650_0 $$aJustice. 001442877 650_0 $$aLaw$$xPhilosophy. 001442877 650_6 $$aVengeance. 001442877 650_6 $$aVendetta. 001442877 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001442877 7001_ $$aMárquez Porras, Raúl,$$eeditor. 001442877 7001_ $$aMazzola, Riccardo,$$eeditor. 001442877 7001_ $$aTerradas Saborit, Ignasi,$$eeditor. 001442877 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tVindicatory justice.$$dCham, Switzerland : Springer, [2022]$$z9783030795948$$w(OCoLC)1252961555 001442877 830_0 $$aIus gentium (Dordrecht, Netherlands) ;$$vv. 93.$$x2214-9902 001442877 852__ $$bebk 001442877 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-79595-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001442877 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1442877$$pGLOBAL_SET 001442877 980__ $$aBIB 001442877 980__ $$aEBOOK 001442877 982__ $$aEbook 001442877 983__ $$aOnline 001442877 994__ $$a92$$bISE
