This period was a crucial time of nation-building for both countries. Antonio Bibbo illustrates the various images of Ireland that circulated in Italy, focusing on political and cultural discourses and examines the laborious formation of an Irish literary canon in Italy. The center of this analysis relies on books and articles on Irish politics, culture, and literature produced in Italy, including pamplets, anthologies, literary histories, and propaganda; translations of texts by Irish writers; and archival material produced by writers, publishers, and cultural and political institutions. Bibbo argues that the construction of different and often conflicting ideas of Ireland in Italy as well as the wavering understanding of the distinctiveness of Irish culture, substantially affected the Italian responses to Irish writers and their presence within the Italian publishing field. This book contributes to the discussion on transnational aspects of canon formation, reception studies, and Italian cultural studies. Antonio Bibbo is Lecturer in English and Translation at the University of Trento, Italy. He has translated works by Woolf, Defoe, Wilde and Pound. 001443281 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed December 28, 2021). 001443281 650_0 $$aIrish literature$$zItaly$$xHistory and criticism. 001443281 650_0 $$aIrish literature$$y20th century$$xHistory and criticism. 001443281 650_0 $$aEnglish literature$$xIrish authors$$xHistory and criticism. 001443281 650_6 $$aLittérature irlandaise$$zItalie$$xHistoire et critique. 001443281 650_6 $$aLittérature irlandaise$$y20e siècle$$xHistoire et critique. 001443281 650_6 $$aLittérature anglaise$$xAuteurs irlandais$$xHistoire et critique. 001443281 655_7 $$aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411635 001443281 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001443281 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBibbò, Antonio.$$tIrish literature in Italy in the era of the World Wars.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2021$$z9783030835859$$w(OCoLC)1272887993 001443281 830_0 $$aNew directions in Irish and Irish American literature. 001443281 852__ $$bebk 001443281 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-83586-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001443281 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1443281$$pGLOBAL_SET 001443281 980__ $$aBIB 001443281 980__ $$aEBOOK 001443281 982__ $$aEbook 001443281 983__ $$aOnline 001443281 994__ $$a92$$bISE
