Its opposite, vengefulness, has played a significant part in various wars of the 20th and 21st centuries. These conflicts are examined in this book, showing how forgiveness could have avoided the tremendous ensuing bloodshed. Despite its importance, in the context of international relations, forgiveness as a means of preventing the outbreak of war (as opposed to facilitating reconciliation after conflicts) has largely been neglected as a subject of study. Indeed, it has also been ignored by politicians, as a result of which there are few examples of forgiveness to study compared with those of revenge. This book reflects this reality, but also seeks to change it by raising public awareness of the importance of forgiveness in international affairs and the need to demand that political leaders explore this avenue. The book also provides a succinct, informative guide to the background of today's international affairs. Each chapter can be read independently and highlights either forgiveness in action or the futility and loss of life caused by vengefulness, demonstrating where and how forgiveness could have made a dramatic difference. 001443356 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed January 12, 2022). 001443356 650_0 $$aInternational relations$$xPsychological aspects. 001443356 650_0 $$aForgiveness. 001443356 650_0 $$aRevenge. 001443356 650_6 $$aRelations internationales$$xAspect psychologique. 001443356 650_6 $$aPardon. 001443356 650_6 $$aVengeance. 001443356 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001443356 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3030875512$$z9783030875510$$w(OCoLC)1264720608 001443356 830_0 $$aContributions to international relations,$$x2731-507X 001443356 852__ $$bebk 001443356 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-87552-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001443356 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1443356$$pGLOBAL_SET 001443356 980__ $$aBIB 001443356 980__ $$aEBOOK 001443356 982__ $$aEbook 001443356 983__ $$aOnline 001443356 994__ $$a92$$bISE
