Composite materials, especially fiber-reinforced composites, are gaining increasing importance since they can overcome the limits of many structures based on classical metals. Particularly, the combination of a matrix with fibers provides far better properties than the components alone. Despite their importance, many engineering degree programs do not treat the mechanical behavior of this class of advanced structured materials in detail, at least on the Bachelor degree level. Thus, some engineers are not able to thoroughly apply and introduce these modern engineering materials in their design process. The focus is on unidirectional lamina which can be described based on orthotropic constitutive equations. Three classical approaches to predict the elastic properties, i.e., the mechanics of materials approach, the elasticity solutions with contiguity after Tsai, and the HalpinTsai relationships, are presented. The quality of each prediction is benchmarked based on two different sets of experimental values. The book concludes with optimized representations, which were obtained based on the least square approach for the used experimental data sets. 001443708 588__ $$aDescription based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on June 08, 2022). 001443708 650_0 $$aFibrous composites$$xMechanical properties. 001443708 650_0 $$aLaminated materials$$xMechanical properties. 001443708 650_6 $$aComposites à fibres$$xPropriétés mécaniques. 001443708 650_6 $$aStratifiés$$xPropriétés mécaniques. 001443708 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001443708 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aÖchsner, Andreas$$tMicromechanics of Fiber-Reinforced Laminae$$dCham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2022$$z9783030940904 001443708 830_0 $$aSpringerBriefs in applied sciences and technology.$$pContinuum mechanics. 001443708 852__ $$bebk 001443708 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-94091-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001443708 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1443708$$pGLOBAL_SET 001443708 980__ $$aBIB 001443708 980__ $$aEBOOK 001443708 982__ $$aEbook 001443708 983__ $$aOnline 001443708 994__ $$a92$$bISE
