The characteristics considered comprise household size, location, income, and gender of the head of household while the behavioural choices considered comprise the decision to consume home-grown food and the decision to adopt domestic technology to aid food preparation and consumption. The book proposes two theoretical models to rationalize the role of the consumption of home-grown food and the adoption of domestic technology in enhancing economies of scale in food consumption. Econometric models are also used to empirically test the validity of the two theoretical models while adjusted poverty estimations are derived numerically using the estimated equivalence scales. Although data used in applying these techniques are based on four Household Income and Expenditure Surveys conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) in Sri Lanka, the methodology can be used for similar analysis in relation to any other country. 001443736 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed January 31, 2022). 001443736 650_0 $$aBasic needs. 001443736 650_0 $$aPoverty. 001443736 650_0 $$aFood consumption. 001443736 650_0 $$aFood$$xSocial aspects. 001443736 650_6 $$aBesoins fondamentaux. 001443736 650_6 $$aPauvreté. 001443736 650_6 $$aAliments$$xConsommation. 001443736 650_6 $$aAliments$$xAspect social. 001443736 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001443736 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9811687420$$z9789811687426$$w(OCoLC)1285918235 001443736 852__ $$bebk 001443736 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-16-8743-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001443736 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1443736$$pGLOBAL_SET 001443736 980__ $$aBIB 001443736 980__ $$aEBOOK 001443736 982__ $$aEbook 001443736 983__ $$aOnline 001443736 994__ $$a92$$bISE
