The primary goal of the book is to analyze how the conflict-inducing effect of natural resources is mediated by inequality and grievances. Given the topicality of the current boom in mining, the main empirical focus is on non-fuel minerals. The volume is structured in four parts. Part I sets the stage of the volume in two chapters. Part II contains large-N studies of fuel and non-fuel resources and their effect on conflict. Based on qualitative methods, Part III presents case studies focusing on Zambia, India, Guatemala and Burkina Faso, which investigate the mechanisms between the extraction of natural resources and violent conflict. Finally, Part IV provides a summary of the previous analyses. Hamid E. Ali is Associate Professor of Economics and Public Policy, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, Qatar, and the author of Darfur Political Economy: A Quest for Development (2014), nd co-author with Christos Kollias of Defense Spending, Natural Resources, and Conflict (2017). He is also the author and co-author of articles in many scholarly journals. Lars-Erik Cederman is Professor of International Conflict Research at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and the author of Emergent Actors in World Politics: How States and Nations Develop and Dissolve (1997) and co-author of Inequality, Grievances and Civil War (2013), as well as numerous articles in scientific journals. 001443986 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001443986 650_0 $$aMines and mineral resources. 001443986 650_0 $$aMineral industries$$xPolitical aspects. 001443986 650_0 $$aNatural resources$$xPolitical aspects. 001443986 650_0 $$aWar and society. 001443986 650_6 $$aMines$$xIndustrie$$xAspect politique. 001443986 650_6 $$aRessources naturelles$$xAspect politique. 001443986 650_6 $$aGuerre et société. 001443986 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001443986 7001_ $$aAli, Hamid Eltgani,$$d1962-$$eeditor. 001443986 7001_ $$aCederman, Lars-Erik,$$d1963-$$eeditor. 001443986 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783030735586 001443986 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3030735575$$z9783030735579$$w(OCoLC)1241245634 001443986 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tNATURAL RESOURCES, INEQUALITY AND CONFLICT.$$d[S.l.] : PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2021$$z3030735575$$w(OCoLC)1241245634 001443986 852__ $$bebk 001443986 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-73558-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001443986 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1443986$$pGLOBAL_SET 001443986 980__ $$aBIB 001443986 980__ $$aEBOOK 001443986 982__ $$aEbook 001443986 983__ $$aOnline 001443986 994__ $$a92$$bISE
