Using survey data for 54 developing countries, the book explores the potential trade-off between the gains from trade and the distribution of those gains and provides a quantification of the inequality-adjusted welfare gains from trade. The book begins with an introduction to the model and its methodology. Chapter 2 sets up the model and derives the formulas for the welfare eects of trade policy. Chapter 3 uses the tari data and the survey data to estimate those welfare eects in 54 countries. Chapter 4 discusses the gains from trade and their distribution. Chapter 5 evaluates and quanties the trade-o between income gains and inequality costs of trade. Chapter 6 presents robustness tests and results from alternative models of the impacts of trade. The last chapter reviews the Household Impacts of Trade database and dashboard, which provides data for replication and a platform that allows researchers to simulate agricultural tari policy shocks. Providing a comprehensive empirical analysis of the effects of trade policy on inequality in developing countries, this volume will be of interest to researchers and students of economic inequality, development, and international trade as well as policymakers interested in the inequality and poverty consequences of trade policy. 001444402 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001444402 650_0 $$aPoverty$$xGovernment policy$$zDeveloping countries. 001444402 651_0 $$aDeveloping countries$$xCommercial policy$$xSocial aspects. 001444402 651_0 $$aDeveloping countries$$xEconomic policy. 001444402 651_0 $$aDeveloping countries$$xEconomic conditions. 001444402 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001444402 7001_ $$aPorto, Guido G.$$q(Guido Gustavo),$$eauthor.$$1https://isni.org/isni/000000004573480X 001444402 7001_ $$aRijkers, Bob,$$eauthor.$$1https://isni.org/isni/000000007953120X 001444402 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3030930599$$z9783030930592$$w(OCoLC)1285577713 001444402 830_0 $$aEconomic studies in inequality, social exclusion and well-being. 001444402 852__ $$bebk 001444402 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-93060-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001444402 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1444402$$pGLOBAL_SET 001444402 980__ $$aBIB 001444402 980__ $$aEBOOK 001444402 982__ $$aEbook 001444402 983__ $$aOnline 001444402 994__ $$a92$$bISE
